Benz Insider reports that Mohammed Ali’s 1959 Mercedes-Benz Golden Angel Wing is about to be sent to auction. The car belonged to Ali in his hay-day, and features jewel-encrusted side body panels and 24k gold plating.

Expecting to fetch 1-1.3 million US Dollars at auction, the Lotec / Mercedes-Benz C1000, a supercar dreamed up by a billionaire in the United Arab Emirates was produced in 1995 and is called “C1000” because of it’s all carbon-fiber body and it’s 1000 horsepower MBZ engine. The original car specs state that the car has a 0-60 time of just over 3 seconds, this hasn’t yet been independently verified. The auction house RKM Collector Car Auctions will be in charge of the auction and it will run October 31 – November 1st, 2013.
Apparently, the new Mercedes-Benz C-class will follow a short list of Google Map nav systems to feature Google Maps as the native navigation app. Cnet reports that recently published interior photos of the new C-class shows Google Earth and Maps embedded into the controls of the infotainment system in the dashboard.
From the article:
“Audi uses Google Earth satellite imagery for its navigation system, although the head unit’s computer performs all route calculation. The Tesla Model S offers Google Maps for its main navigation system, and buyers can opt for stored maps for navigation when outside of a data coverage area.
In a press release, Mercedes-Benz says the new C-class will use an updated controller for the infotainment system, letting drivers use swipe and tap gestures to call up menus and other vehicle functions.”
No other official word has been released about the infotainment system, but the photos are legit.
MotorTrend’s Frank Markus takes the new 4-cylinder E250 Bluetec for a trip through the wilderness in Washington. Some takeaways, they didn’t get above 36MPG, the power is adequate and the navigation routes you to gas stations that have changed since the nav was updated. That’s a harsh finding in a brand new luxury Diesel hybrid from a leading automaker like Mercedes-Benz.

The Mercedes-Benz GLA is a high-riding A-Class with a more muscular body, bigger alloys, roof rails, a dual exhaust arrangement, tailgate-mounted spoiler and an almost identical interior cabin.
“Mercedes-Benz takes a big step forward with its 2014 S550 flagship sedan, improving just about every feature in this model update, but app integration suffers from slow connection times.”

Federal Investigators from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration are investigating 21 recent reports that tail lights in the 2008-2009 MBZ C-class are starting fires.
“In multiple instances consumers have reported smelling smoke and seeing burn marks in the trunks of the vehicles,” NHTSA said in a statement.
The models affected are the C300, C350, C36 AMG, C43 AMG and C63 AMG sold as 2008 and 2009 models.

Edmunds reviews the entry-level sport sedan by AMG, and finds that it’s turbocharged 4-cylinder engine is plenty powerful for plenty of fun. It’s designed for a younger audience, with apt handling and a nice interior.
As a way of reducing the time it takes for rescue crews to locate a “rescue sheet” for any new Mercedes-Benz vehicle, they have started adding QR codes to their newest models. QR codes are little square codes that a digital device can read and use as a hyperlink to an app or webpage. With seconds between life & death after a collision, using these codes will more quickly allow rescue crews to know where to use the jaws of life immediately.
Mercedes is debuting their newest SUV concept at Shanghai’s annual motor show. This micro SUV will have a 4 cylinder, turbo-charged 2 liter motor with a seven speed double clutch automatic transmission. This model features HD cameras that can be used to record video both on the car and off.
Apparently 20 year old auto technicians can’t keep themselves on the road when they are test driving a classic Mercedes Benz 300 SL Gullwing. They went too fast during a test drive and lost control of the vehicle and rolled over. Luckily, their auto shop had insurance coverage for such an unfortunate accident. I am sure they will be more careful next time! Our technicians are much more careful and safe during test drives, we’ve never had an incident!
