About your Transmission!

The transmission is the most complex mechanical system in your vehicle. As such, it is one of the most expensive to repair or replace. Because it is mechanical in nature, it needs a special fluid to keep it working properly and protect its many finely-machined, intricate parts. Transmission fluid endures heavy abuse as you drive. One of its various jobs is to limit wear on the friction plates that control the transfer of energy from your vehicle’s engine to its wheels. As it does this particular job, some wear is inevitable. So transmission fluid is designed to also carry this abrasive material through a filtering system. Over time, however, the fluid loses its ability to perform this function efficiently. It must be replaced! If not, wear and tear of your transmission’s internal parts will accelerate. Ultimately, this will result in component failure and a very BIG repair bill. Fortunately, a simple and relatively inexpensive transmission service, done on a periodic basis, will prevent this problem and allow your transmission to run great and last for the life of your car.

Brake Fluid Should be Clear

Brake Fluid Should be Clear

Fresh engine oil is amber in color and turns black when it is dirty. Dirty brake fluid, on the other hand, looks just like clean engine oil. Why replace something that looks clean? How would brake fluid get dirty anyway? Doesn’t it just sit there and only move around a tiny bit when you step on the brakes? Why replace it at all? Is it important?

The fact is, no other fluid is more critical to your safety! (How would you stop without it?)

What many people don’t realize is that brake fluid is “hydroscopic.” This means it absorbs and retains water from the atmosphere. This moisture works its way through the hydraulic system and causes corrosion and deterioration of different components, which in turn pollute the fluid and change its color. This damage will also lead to leaks and other malfunctions with your braking system. In addition, water has a lower boiling point than brake fluid. During heavy braking scenarios, such as downhill braking, the moisture in your brake fluid can vaporize, resulting in a sudden (and dangerous) loss of braking performance. For these reasons, manufacturers recommend replacing your brake fluid at least every two years regardless of mileage.

Factory Recall Visits to the Dealer should be Free

Recall Visits to the Dealer should be Free

From time to time, many of our clients receive notices from the manufacturer notifying them of a recall situation. They are being instructed to take their vehicles to their local dealer to satisfy these recall notices. So far, no problem. Expecting nothing more than a free replacement of a defective part or some other update to their vehicle, owners are also receiving a “courtesy” inspection of the entire vehicle along with a laundry list of “urgent” customer charged repairs and services un-related to the recall notice.

This is a problem! Read on …
Based on the inspection reports that we have seen, much of the work being recommended is not needed at all, let alone urgent. It appears to be nothing more than a scare tactic to get you to spend money. Recalls should be FREE! If you experience this situation, please DO NOT authorize any repairs or services until you call Quality Motors at 364-3636 and let us review their recommendations and advise you accordingly.

Summer is here, are you and your BMW / MINI / Mercedes ready?

Now is the best time to get your vehicles ready for summer’s upcoming heat. Below is a quick checklist for ensuring your drives in the sun will be memorable ones for all the “right” reasons.

  • Brake pad and rotor wear should be checked to make sure they are within factory specifications. Brake fluid should
be clean and fresh. Damaged or worn out suspension parts should be replaced.
  • Worn out or damaged tires should be replaced and the wheel alignment checked. Shocks and struts also have a finite service life and can cause rapid or uneven tire wear, or worse, a loss of
control during sudden or evasive emergency maneuvers if they are worn out or not operating correctly.
  • Engine belts that are worn out, stretched, or damaged can suddenly fail and leave you stranded. In addition, some belt failures can be catastrophic to an engine. Replace belts before you “need” to!
  • Each of the various fluids and filters in your vehicle help protect a specific system. Keeping those filters and fluids fresh and clean will ensure a long and reliable automotive life.

Nothing beats having “a friend in the business!”

Isn’t it a great feeling when you find yourself in the market for a product or service, and you just happen to know someone in that industry? Maybe your refrigerator quits working one day, but you just happen to have a good friend in the appliance repair business. You can make sound decisions with confidence knowing you’ll get accurate, honest advice from someone who cares about you.

At Quality Motors, we think of ourselves as your friend in the automotive business. Let’s face it, vehicles today are very complicated. They require regular maintenance, periodic repairs, and nearly every household in the U.S. has at least one or more. Because of all this, the potential for consumer abuse is great. The fact is, automotive-related issues consistently make the top ten list of all consumer complaints received by the Federal Trade Commission each year (actually it’s #8 for 2014, with 3% of total complaints, and #10 in Better Business Bureau statistics).

We think the problem is this: far too many repair shops look at their customers as lottery tickets. They are less concerned with seeing you again and more concerned with getting as much money out of you as they can—today! At Quality Motors, we turn the table on that idea. We consider every one of our customers as a long-term friend. Our priority is to establish relationships that span decades. We know the only way to do that is to provide you with value, honesty, and great service—today. So that’s what we do!

Thanks for reading, sincerely,

your Quality Motors team!

Is car repair a commodity?

wrenchinainteasyIt is very hard to compare “apples to apples” when deciding
between auto repair shops. By contrast, when shopping around for
a new refrigerator, once you decide on a make and model you can
easily compare vendors based solely on price. The product itself
is exactly the same regardless of who you buy it from.
Car repair is different. Parts and material quality can vary
wildly, as can installation labor. There are plenty of cheap parts
and labor shortcuts a shop can take to get you the “best” price.
But is that really what you want? Is that the most important thing?
Second to a home, vehicles are the most costly items most
people will ever buy. To ensure the best return on this investment
(longest possible life, carefree operation and highest trade-in value),
proper care and quality repairs are critical. Cutting corners may save
you a few dollars up front, but it will cost you much more than you
save in the long run.
Before making any decisions that might take you away
from QualityMotors, always discuss it with us first—we won’t be
offended. If there are lower cost alternatives, we’ll tell you. If not,
we’ll tell you why not, and at least you’ll be making an informed
decision. One thing you can always count on is this: we will never
compromise your safety or the reliability of your vehicles just to
make a sale. You are too important to us for that.
